Towards arm tremor diagnosis

چکیده
Many clinical studies have shown that the arm movement of patients with neurological injury is often slow. In this paper, the speed analysis of arm movement is presented, with the aim of evaluating arm movement automatically using a Kinect camera. The consideration of arm movement appears trivial at first glance, but in reality it is very complex neural and biomechanical process that can potentially be used for detecting a neurological disorder. This is a preliminary study, on healthy subjects, which investigates three different arm-movement speeds: fast, medium and slow. With a sample size of 27 subjects, our developed algorithm is able to classify the three different speed classes (slow, normal, and fast) with overall error of 5.43% for interclass speed classification and 0.49% for interaclass classification. This is the first step towards enabling future studies that investigate abnormality in arm movement, via use of a Kinect camera.

Optimal design of a vibration absorber for tremor control of arm in Parkinson's disease
Because the underlying physiology of pathological tremor in a Parkinson's patient is not well understood, the existing physical and drug therapies have not been successful in tremor treatment. Different mathematical modeling of such vibration has been introduced to investigate the problem and reduce the existing vibration. Most of the models have represented the induced vibration as a sinusoida...

OBJECTIVES To compare action tremor (AT) during manual tracking in normal subjects and patients with multiple sclerosis with tremor (MS-tremor group) and without tremor (MS-no tremor group), and to differentiate tremor occurring predominantly around the distal joint from that involving the proximal joints of the arm. METHODS Subjects performed both a visually guided ramp tracking task using w...

متن کاملThe “Head Snap”: A Subtle Clinical Feature During the Finger–Nose–Finger Maneuver in Essential Tremor
BACKGROUND Essential tremor is characterized by several hyperkinetic movements, including arm and head tremors. We report another movement of the head in patients with essential tremor, which we term the "head snap." This was observed as a jerking motion of the head in some patients while they performed the finger-nose-finger maneuver. METHODS We compared the prevalence of the head snap in es...
